I wander thro’ each charter’d street,
Near where the charter’d Thames does flow.
And mark in every face I meet of woe.
Marks of weakness, marks of woe.
In every cry of every Man,
In every infants cry of fear,
In every voice: in every ban,
The mind-forged manacles I hear.
How the Chimney-sweepers cry
Every blackening Church appalls,
And the hapless Soldiers sigh
Runs in blood down Palace walls
But most thro’ midnight streets I hear
How the youthful Harlots curse
Blasts the new-born Infants tear
And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse.
William Blake’s “Urizen in Fetters”
The strongest weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. People keep obediently in their place because they’ve internalized their submission. Therefore, as a result to this passive submission many are wearing fashioned chains inside their own mind. This is no accident, the official power structure likes it that way. Hence, now is the time to awaken from sleep and emerge knowledgeably detained diligently progressing valiantly towards freedom.
